The Do's and Don'ts of Social Media
According to Neilson, June, 2010, three-quarters of all global consumers who go online, visit social media and social networking websites. With that large of a potential global clientele, what business owner wouldn’t want to make social media work for them?

Many business owners are already on the social media bandwagon. However, did you know that there are some do’s and don'ts that go along with social media? If not, then you’re in luck because I have some food for thought to help you take advantage of social media for your business.

Do find the social media/social networking site that matches your company’s needs and expectations. There are a lot of sites out there, so take the time to research the pros and cons of each one to find your match.

Do offer a sneak peek into your company. Customers like to know they are interacting with people rather than just a company.

Don’t get too personal. Keep your social media professional. Customers want to know you are real people but
don’t want to see pictures of the office party.

Do utilize multi-media. Diversifying your social media posts will be sure to change it up.

Do interact with visitors. You want to build a relationship with your current and potential customers.
Social media is an excellent way to network.

Don’t always be selling. Social media is more about interacting with the consumer rather than always making
a sales pitch.

Do reward customer loyalty with benefit-based incentives. (Limited time only, exclusively to followers,
etc.) This will encourage more customers to visit your social media sites.

Don’t forget to update. It’s not beneficial to go weeks and weeks without updating your social media site. Social media should be updated at least on a weekly basis.

Social media and social networking sites can also be a great way to find influential people within your industry as well as connecting you with potential partnerships.

Remember these do’s and don’ts and you will be well on your way to making social media and social networks work for your business.
